From Buenos Aires

It saddens me to say that my art career is on hold for the moment while I attempt to make a living here in Buenos Aires. I’m still planning things and sketching stuff, but there are no gallery shows or major series in the works right now. Rest assured, however, that I am finding no shortage of inspiration here in Bs As.

If you want more frequent updates on what I’ve been up to, please check out my travel blog here.

Thanks everyone!

the plan

I know I’ve been quiet for a while, but that’s just because I’ve been so busy teaching English here in Italy. In a month or so, I’m looking to get an apartment in Madrid, hopefully find some temp work, and just paint and print to my heart’s content.

Suggestions?

More pics from the opening

So I ordered a new camera the other night, and it arrived about 3 hours ago. It’s an Olympus, like my last one, and not only does it use the same battery and memory card as my old FE- 340 (soooooo convenient), but it is WATERPROOF! The first thing I did with it was run right up to the gallery and take some shots, and they’re located under ‘work.’

Enjoy!

Gallery Opening=Successful

We opened the gallery at 2pm yesterday, with everything somehow miraculously in place, the walls spackled and painted, food cooked, and plenty of visitors to the opening. You can see part of my work in this pic.

I want to thank everyone who helped me during the last few days. I was freaking out, what with softball, and framing and hanging, and prepping food, and trying to look decent for the show. Mom, Dad, Kyle, and Courtney- the show would never have been such a success without you!

So close. . .

I can’t believe it’s almost here. Right now I’m up in the gallery, hanging my art while my friends are out at the CUA Spring Dance. That would have been fun to go to, but I just don’t have the time right now.

In the 2 hours since I’ve been here, I’ve put up 5 pieces. I feel like that’s a pretty good pace for someone to whom numbers make no sense. The entire right wall is nearly complete, which will take care of almost half of my show. The left wall should be a lot tougher though, because I have a lot of larger paintings on that wall, and I’m not sure how to stack things. I’d put up pictures of the process, but my camera decided to stop working today. I can hardly think of a worse time- between the conference softball tournament, my art show, fraternity dances, the last two weeks of college, and graduation, I have a lot coming up that I’d like to remember. Anyone have a good digital camera they’d like to donate to the cause? Or the secret to resurrecting an Olympus FE-340 with a lens problem?

The gallery opens Sunday!

It’s almost exactly 5 days until we open up the Stocksdale Gallery on Sunday! Right now, all the girls are busy finishing up with framing, touching up paintings, and hanging their work. I’ve got two walls to work with, and a total of 17 paintings and prints. I’m thinking about making one wall Madrid paintings, because I have probably 7 of those or so, and the other wall Italy and Nice. Then again, I might just mix everything up.

One piece I’m really excited about is Cimbalomania. It’s 4 paintings which sort of fit together like you’re looking at a pinwheel (if that makes any sense at all). There’s one subject per painting, and each is on a bold background (this is pretty typical of my work). The subjects are a double bass player, two cimbalomists, and one accordionist. They’re all part of a street performing group that I used to see in the Sol area of Madrid. To see pictures, click on ‘works’ at the top of this page and look under ‘Key of Life Works.’

This piece, plus 11 others, will be on display starting this Sunday at 2pm! There will also be delicious food and some scandalous paintings. Rumor has it someone’s pricing a piece at $1000 too- I’m anxious to see if that’s true or not. Hope to see you there!

Gallery Opening in 2 Weeks!

On May 2nd, William Jewell College’s Stocksdale Gallery will feature senior art majors Liz Fritz, Jade Messinger, Ashley Fogarty, and Cara Covault in their senior show. The artwork shown on this postcard is fairly representative of the styles of their work.  The gallery will open at 2pm and the opening will last until 330pm, but the art will stay up for about 2 weeks afterwards. Refreshments will be served, so you really have no reason not to come see these lovely ladies in their first show!

Artwork will be available for purchase, but of course, it’s free to look at.
